BOWLS BIG WEEKEND AT OLD COULSDON B.C

OLD COULSDON BOWLING CLUB – OPEN DAY

On Sunday 28th May, as part of the Bowls Big Weekend, Old Coulsdon Bowling Club in Surrey, held an Open Day. With just under 60 guests through the door and, at the time of writing, 17 potential new members already in preliminary coaching, the event was a resounding success. During the day guests were invited to play fun games based upon popular TV programs, Pointless, Bullseye and Match of the Day, to whet their appetites to take up bowls. Special equipment was provided for children to use, who appeared to have as much fun as the adults, if not more. The club also raised money from, cake, book and jigsaw sales, all of which helps to support the club.

On the day the club was lucky enough to be visited by Jon Cockcroft, Chief Executive of Bowls England, who later sent the club an email saying:

“I really enjoyed your event, and it was truly inspirational. As I said on Sunday, if every club was like yours – full of great people, lots of energy, ambition and progressive ideas – all would be rosy”.

Jon also took a video of one of Old Coulsdon’s members, Dave Dyer who, with the support of the club’s head coach Ken West, has been able to overcome the challenges of Parkinsons disease and bowls now plays a major role in Dave’s life. Dave has subsequently featured in the latest edition of “The Jack” magazine and his video can be viewed on the Bowls England Facebook page.

Old Coulsdon is one of the few clubs that continues to see its membership grow, which is a direct result of the enthusiasm and hard work of the club’s fabulous members.
