Bowls’ Big Weekend is back for 2022

Bowls England has announced the return of Bowls’ Big Weekend for 2022, taking place from Friday, May 27 until Sunday, May 29.

Bowls’ Big Weekend presents the opportunity for clubs to increase membership and get more people playing our wonderful sport, with Bowls International proud to be a recognised supporter of the event.

Last year’s event was a carnival for our sport and saw record numbers of people flocking to clubs across the country to try our great game. Over 1,100 events took place all over the country at 603 Bowls England affiliated clubs, with the sun shining down on new players of all ages as they got to grips with the game.

All research points to open days being the key to getting new players into clubs, and Bowls England will be running a centralised marketing campaign once again to get people to registered clubs.

A home Commonwealth Games presents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the sport of lawn bowls to increase participation.

What support will our club get? Upon registering your events, clubs will be able to access free resources including publicity material and creative resources for social media channels and websites.

Additionally in 2022, Bowls England will be hosting an increased number of area-specific webinars to ensure you get the most out of the event. These webinars will cover planning, marketing, promotion and on the day experience and much more.

Were there any success stories in 2021? Last year, bowls was put into the spotlight in the days leading up to the event with media coverage including BBC Breakfast sports legend Mike Bushell attending Colchester BC to film a segment for the show.

Bearsted and Thurnham BC in Kent grasped the opportunity with both hands welcoming over 100 visitors to their event. The club offered plenty of time on the green testing skills with fun competitions, meeting the friendly club members and advising how prospective new members could join.
