Two new Welsh Singles Champions

Wales has crowned two new singles champions.

Welsh internationals Ben Thomas, of Pontrhydyfen BC, and Lampeter BC’s Melanie Thomas won the blue riband WBA and WWBA singles trophies for the first time.

And for Ben the win was something of a family double for his sister – World Bowls pairs gold medallist and Commonwealth Games singles silver winner Laura, now Daniels, was still (albeit for a matter of hours) the holder of the women’s event when he lifted the trophy!

Ben, a previous winner of the pairs and fours, beat Harlequins’ Jordan Davies in the final 21-12, while Mel, who has the Under 25 singles, two-wood singles, triples and fours to her name, accounted for Tridwr’s Jackie Jones 21-7.

See next month’s issue of Bowls International for a full round-up and photos of both association’s finals.
