Welsh Commonwealth Games Team Named

The Welsh team for the Commonwealth Games to be held at Kelvingrove, Glasgow, has been determined.

Robert Weale, from Presteigne, who has won two gold, three silver medals as well as one Commonwealth Games bronze medal since making his debut in Edinburgh in 1986, will lead a strong Welsh team in the Games on the Kelvingrove greens in Glasgow next July.

Weale, who is looking forward to defending his menโ€™s singles title, is joined by Mark Harding (Cardiff) in the pairs, while Paul Taylor (Pontyclun), Jon Tomlinson (RTB Ebbw Vale) and Marc Wyatt (Caerphilly Town) will complete the five-strong menโ€™s team.

Caroline Taylor, from Berriew, will carry Welsh hopes in the womenโ€™s singles, and will be joined in the womenโ€™s team by Anwen Butten (Lampeter), Lisa Forey (Llanelli), Kelly Packwood (Pontyfelin) and Kathy Pearce (Berriew).

Gilbert Miles (Swansea) and Rosa Crean (Cardiff) will represent Wales in the visually impaired pairs, while Chris Gibson (Cardiff), Dave Powell (Monmouthshire) and Kevin Woolmore (Wrexham) line up in the para triples event for athletes with a physical disability.
