Welsh women charity walk in memory of Linda Evans

Members of the Welsh Women’s Bowling Association will be swapping their bowls shoes for their hiking boots as they embark on a charity challenge.

Spearheaded by current junior international team manager and Commonwealth Games representative and World Bowls medallist Kathy Pearce, the Taff Trail sponsored walk takes place over Easter weekend, April 19-22.

Mid Wales County Bowling Association president, Kathy said: “The Taff Trail walk will start in Cardiff Bay travelling through beautiful scenery in the Taff Valley, former and famous coal mining valleys and then into the grandeur of the Brecon Beacons, finishing along the canal to Brecon Theatre. The event will end in Brecon Bowling Club.”

Proceeds of the sponsored walk will be split 50/50 between Macmillan Cancer Support and the Welsh Women’s Bowling Association.

Continued Kathy: “Macmillan Cancer Support is the chosen charity in memory of Linda Evans, former junior manager, WWBA treasurer and eminent bowler. The organisation played a big part in making Linda’s last days as comfortable as possible, as well as providing support to family and friends.

“The remaining 50 per cent will go towards purchasing a ‘training kit’ for both the senior and junior international team. This will cost approximately £2,500.”

Kathy, along with fellow Mid Wales bowler Jacqui Gough will walk the entire route – 55 miles in four days! Jacqui will be raising money for the local branch of Cruse Bereavement Care Powys.

Anyone who would like to join the walk, distance and section to suit individuals, is asked to contact kathypearce@hotmail.co.uk by April 12.
