Bowls International team up with Dorset Youth Bowls Academy

Bowls International is delighted to team up with the Dorset Youth Bowls Academy (DYBA) to support the promotion of youth bowls.

DYBA was set up in April 2019 and is creating bowls stars of the future, offering free regular coaching and development opportunities for children within the county, whilst also providing a perfect platform to meet like-minded youngsters both socially and competitively.

Membership to the Academy has doubled in the last three years, with aspirations to double again in the next 12 months. The Academy sees the home Commonwealth Games later this year as a perfect opportunity to promote the sport to a new audience and grow its participation levels.

Matt Wordingham, associate editor of Bowls International, said: โ€œThe dedicated team of coaches and volunteers at DYBA are working hard behind the scenes to get more youth players into the game and we want to be a part of promoting that success.

โ€œThe Bowls International team believes that many clubs and counties all over the UK can learn valuable lessons from DYBA. We are looking forward to working closely together to help promote and amplify the DYBA story to improve both the quantity and quality of opportunities for youngsters to enjoy our sport, particularly throughout the UK.

Carol Williams, fundraiser and trustee of the DYBA, added: โ€œDYBA is delighted to work in partnership with Bowls International to get more youngsters learning how to play bowls and also to recognise the success of our youngsters.

โ€œWe will be pleased to offer advice in future articles to other clubs looking to set up a junior section, while also submitting regular reports on various league games where our youngsters play against other counties and their progress through various competitions, fun days and bowling weekends.

โ€œWe look forward to working with Bowls International to make a success of this new partnership.โ€

Bowls International will provide regular updates on the progress of DYBA and its members through news posts on its website and social media channels, in addition to within the magazine.
