History made as Brett faces Paxton in all-England world indoor singles final

Who will emerge victorious in the bid for the title- the first time that neither finalist has previously won the world singles since the event has been held at Potters?

TOMORROW world number one ranked Nick Brett will take on world number four ranked Robert Paxton in the final of the Just Retirement Professional World Indoor Open Singles.

After taking home both the mixed pairs and open pairs titles last year, Paxton will be hoping to make it a treble in his first world singles final.

The Somerset player has been in the top 16 of the World Bowls Tour for the last four years after battling through the qualifiers.

He reached the quarter final of the singles last year but has previously been in three semi finals.

Robert bowls with Drakes Pride bowls and his route to the final has included wins over Robert Chisholm, Mark Royal, Jamie Chestney and Alex Marshall.

It is also the first world indoor singles final for Nick Brett who plays for Huntingdon indoors.

The 41-year-old has enjoyed an incredible couple of seasons that has seen him jump from number 13 to number one on the WBT ranking list after winning the Scottish International Open in 2013 and 2014 and then wining the International Open in 2015.

Like Robert, Nick also reached the quarter final stage of the world indoor singles last year.

He plays with Henselite bowls and has beaten James Rippey, Les Gillett, Greg Harlow and David Gourlay to reach the final.

Tomorrowโ€™s final is only the third all-England final in the 38 year history of the event.

The other two occasions were in 1987 when Tony Allcock beat David Bryant and in 2006 when Greg Harlow beat Mervyn King.

It is also the first time that the two finalists have been debut finalists in the world indoor singles since Paul Foster beat Mervyn King at Preston in 1998- there has never been such a final at Potters.
