Hong Kong Classic singles winners crowned

Hong Kong international Jenny Miu won the women’s singles titles at the Hong Kong International Bowls Classic.  The men’s singles title was taken by Mark Wilson of Ireland.

In an all-Hong Kong final, Jenny Miu, who is a Hong Kong team member and representing Tseung Kwan O Bowling Club in this tournament, defeated Shandy Yu from the Club de Recreio in straight set of 11:6, 10:6. 

In the men’s competition, Mark Wilson faced World Champion of Champions singles silver medalist Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple from Malaysia and prevailed in two sets with a scoreline of 10:7, 11:9.

The annual event will continue on Monday with the pairs competition throughout the week.  The final of the Pairs will be on next Sunday.

First organised in 1981, the Hong Kong International Bowls Classic is recognised as one of the best outdoor bowls tournaments in the world.  Over the years, famous bowlers from all leading bowling countries have participated in the event.  Hong Kong has won the Pairs title on five occasions and the Hong Kong Team won it in 2007.  In the Singles, Hong Kong players George Souza Jnr, Noel Kennedy and Jordi Lo won their titles in 1984, 1994 and 2015 respectively. For women, Hong Kong Youth Team Amy Choi and Vivian won Pairs and Local Player Dorothy Yu and Vivian Yip won Singles in 2015 and 2017 respectively.
