Lincolnshire win BE women’s pairs

Lincolnshire’s Sheila Plaskitt and Penny Strong have won the Bowls England Women’s National Pairs Championship, sponsored by ST Sports following a remarkable fightback in the final.

The pair from Dunholme BC, Lincolnshire, trailed Devon’s Emma Cooper and Natalie Chestney from Kings BC 18-9 after 15 ends, but then scored on the last six ends – including a single on the last end – to secure the title.

In the semi-finals Plaskitt and Strong defeated Cheryl Colby and Morgan Merryweather, from Island Bohemian BC, Berkshire, whilst Cooper and Chestney defeated Lincolnshire’s Caroline Cullum and Amy Gowshall from Cleethorpes BC.

Dunholme, Lincs (P Strong) bt Island Bohemian, Berks (M Merryweather) 20-13;

Kings, Devon (N Chestney) bt Cleethorpes, Lincs (A Gowshall) 24-11;

Final:

Dunholme, Lincs (P Strong) bt Kings, Devon (N Chestney) 19-18;
