World Bowls Tour cancels 2020 Scottish International Open

The WBT announced today that the 2020 Scottish International Open has been cancelled in light of Covid-19.

A statement from Richard Maddieson said:

“The World Bowls Tour have been monitoring the Global Covid-19 Pandemic very closely over the last few months, particularly here in the United Kingdom, ensuring it is up to date with the latest information and guidelines available from the respective UK Devolved Government Departments.

“Ongoing and continuous monitoring of this Pandemic has shown thatย thereย are still major concerns, particularly from within an indoor environment.ย

“The Health and wellbeing of spectators, athletes, officials, volunteers, venue staff and all those associated with an indoor sport, is uppermost in our minds. After discussions in recent weeks and days with our stakeholders, BBC Sport Scotland and Live Active, it is with great regret that World Bowls Tour have had to make a very hard and difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Scottish International Open and look to restart this event later in 2021.

“We all understand many will be disappointed, but paramount in our thoughts is for the safety of all. We all must look towards the future where we will have many more opportunities for our sport. We wish all of you, safe passage through these turbulent times and look forward to seeing you all in a much safer future.”
