Yorkshire win Bowls England women’s pairs

Yorkshire’s Suzanne Cotton and Diana Jones from Kingston BC have won the Bowls England Women’s National Pairs Championship, sponsored by ST Sports, at Victoria Park, Royal Leamington Spa.

They defeated Hampshire’s Hazel Marke and Margaret Holden from Alton Social BC 22-16 in yesterday afternoon’s final, to secure Yorkshire’s maiden success in the history of the Women’s National Pairs Championship.

The Yorkshire pair raced into a 17-4 lead, before dropping two counts of four to create a tense finish.

In the first semi-final, Cotton and Jones defeated the 2016 champions Sophie Tolchard and Natalie Chestney from Kings BC, Devon, whilst Marke and Holden beat Caroline Cullum and Amy Gowshall from Cleethorpes BC, Lincolnshire.

Kingston, Yorks (D Jones) bt Kings, Devon (N Chestney) 20-15;
Alton Social, Hants (M Holden) bt Cleethorpes, Lincs (A Gowshall) 25-22

Final:
Kingston, Yorks (D Jones) bt Alton Social, Hants (M Holden) 22-16

Entry to the championships is free of charge. Chargeable parking is available in Victoria Park and in nearby town centre car parks.
