Amy Gowshall and Izzie White are BE Women’s Bowlers of the Year

The Bowls England Women’s Bowler of the year awards were announced last night at the women’s annual prize giving and awards evening in Solihull.

For the first time this year the public voted for the winner, after a shortlist was created for each category.

Junior Women, award sponsored by Bowls International:

Emma Cooper- Emma Cooper was part of the double rink team from Sussex that won the Walker Cup for the first time in the county’s history. She then went on to feature in the national fours and triples quarter finals and has been named as part of the 2019 Senior International side.

Emily Ferguson – Kent player Emily Ferguson has risen through the ranks quickly. Part of the winning Johns Trophy team last year and the Walker Cup runner up, this year she was the led in the UK Paper four that were runners up and was called up to the Senior International Team.

Courtney Harvey – Eighteen-year-old Courtney Harvey from Bucks had two extra-end victories to lift the Sutton Winson Trophy. She qualified through to Leamington in both the Junior Singles and Junior Pairs and led for Mary Price in the Walker and Johns teams.

Katherine Rednall – Junior and senior international Katherine Rednall was part of England’s women’s triple that scooped a bronze medal in the Commonwealth Games in Australia.

Vicky Room – Warwickshire player Vicky Room reached the Junior Singles final in 2018 and has been named as part of next year’s Senior International Team after impressing with her skipping performances in the junior internationals.

Rachel Tremlett – Rachel Tremlett has earned a place in the Senior International team after impressing selectors all season, from the test event against Australia, during the junior internationals and at Leamington and at the trial. With Devon Cooper she was the junior pairs winner

Izzie White – At just 16 Izzie White from Worcestershire was the youngest Junior Singles Winner this year. And she did so in style, beating Vicky Room 21-12 in the final who had earlier beaten out Katherine Rednall, the defending champion.

 The runner up was Courtney Harvey and the winner was Izzy White.

Senior Women, award sponsored by Taylor Bowls:

Caroline Campion- Oxfordshire’s Caroline Campion qualified through to Leamington in all four main events. She was losing quarter finalist in the women’s pairs, triples and fours and semi finalist in the Women’s Singles.

Amy Gowshall – Lincolnshire player Amy Gowshall has enjoyed a spectacular season, winning the Two Wood Singles and achieving a record breaking ninth Champion of Champions win since 1998. She was also the runner up in the National Singles, a semi finalist in the Women’s Pairs and achieved her 75^thinternational cap during the series in Ireland.

Margaret Holden – Hampshire’s Margaret Holden lifted the Senior Fours title after having to settle for runners up spots in both the Women’s Pairs with Hazel Marke and the Senior Pairs with Lesley Johnson.

Sian Honnor – Kent’s Sian Honnor started the season by winning skipping the England women’s triple to a bronze medal, her third consecutive Commonwealth Games medal. Sian achieved a 100 per cent record skipping in the international series and then reached the final of the National Fours at Leamington.

Debbie Seward- Surrey’s Debbie Seward, a senior international, was a losing quarter finalist in the Women’s Fours and lost out in the semi final of the Champion of Champions. She was also part of Surrey’s winning Johns Trophy team.

Margaret Smith – Senior International Margaret Smith from Surrey kicked off the National Championships as part of the winning Johns team then followed this up by skipping Sharmishta Patel and Maureen Vandrau to win the National Women’s Triples.

Sophie Tolchard – It was three national titles for Devon’s Sophie Tolchard this year as she won the Women’s National Singles for the second time in four years, lead the Devon four to success and played in the singles in the Top Club which was won by Kings. She also reached the semi final of the National Pairs with Natalie Chestney. Sophie has now won eight major national titles outdoors.

Terrie Wombell – Terry Wombell from Nottinghamshire reached the semi finals in three disciplines- the Two Wood Singles, Fours in which she skipped and Senior Singles.

The runner up was Sophie Tolchard and the winner was Amy Gowshall.
