England Under 18 Teams Bring Back the Bacon

England’s young guns secured gold in three of the four disciplines played at Dunfermline last weekend…

Englandโ€™s under 18 teams showed their class in the BIIBC under 18 international series, held at Abbeyview Indoor Bowling Club in Dunfermline last weekend, to continue Englandโ€™s dominance at this event.

The singles, pairs and triples saw an all-England affair in every final, but the fours final was contested by the two teams representing Scotland to stop a clean sweep of events being won by England.

The two England teams came out joint top on points, with England 1 and 2 both securing 18 points, significantly more than third placed Scotland 1 with 10.

Dan Seabourne won the singles for England 1 when he defeated fellow countryman Jack Bird from England B, the pair sharing the spoils in the first set 6-6 and Seabourne clinching the second 10-7, after scores of 2, 3 and 2 to come back from 7-3 down.

The pairs final was also an all-England affair, although Seabourne could not make it a double as he and his skip Noah Cummings lost on a tie-break to England 2 representatives Cameron Legate and Connor Cinato, with Legate and Cinato claiming the first 9-6, losing the second 5-8 and keeping their nerve to claim the tie-break 2-0.

England 1 claimed the triples against their England counterparts in the final. Holly Arundel, Greg Chalkin and Jamie Baker defeated Lydia Cutmore, Jack Bird and Bradley Coles in straight sets, 8-5, 8-3.

However, the fours saw an all-Scottish final, with the Scotland 2 rink of John Reid, Gemma Forrester, Ryan Kerr and John Meikle winning after storming out of the blocks to a 10-1, first set win, then narrowly losing the second 5-6, before claiming both ends in the tie-break to win it 2-0.
