Falkner and Field to battle in ladies final at Potters

Wednesday at Potters saw the Ladies Professional World Indoor matchplay semi finals take place.

Ellen Falkner got the better of defending champion Laura Thomas on the last end of a tie break, winning 6-5, 5-9, 21.

The previous winner of the title in 2005 and 2006 said: โ€œIโ€™m very pleased to get through to the final again.โ€

Laura said: โ€œI was hoping to extend the run, after taking something back home from the last three championships at Potters, but every good thing must come to an end sometime – and I had a good run.

โ€œIt’s always disappointing to lose, but I just didn’t play well enough.

โ€œYou’ve just got to take it on the chin, deal with it, and move on.โ€

Bex Field will meet Ellen in the final tomorrow (Thursday) after beating Cliodhna Eadie 3-8, 7-6, 2-1.

She said: โ€œI’m over the moon – not only because I’m in the final again, but because I’m feeling more comfortable on the portable rink than I have for some time.

โ€œCliodhna played exceedingly well – especially in the first set. She made it very hard to score shots.

โ€œI’m really looking forward to the final.โ€

The Professional World Indoor Singles saw Stewart Anderson defeating Mervyn King 11-2, 3-8, 2-1.

He said afterwards: โ€œIn many ways I feel like i stole that because Merv was playing so well, especially in the second set.

โ€œI used weight a lot whereas normally I would keep drawing, but I am so pleased with the result.โ€

Mervyn said that he enjoyed the game despite losing.

Alex Marshall also had a tussle against Mark Dawes.

He said: โ€œThat was a brilliant game that was bowl for bowl which the crowd recognised with a standing ovation at the end of the match.

โ€œIt could have been a final.โ€
