Scottish Open shocks

There were some opening round shocks in the Co-operative Funeralcare Scottish International Open which runs from November 5-12 at the Dewars Centre in Perth.

The biggest upset was the defeat of five-time world indoor singles champion Alex Marshall by ‘wildcard’ entry Les Gillett, the England left-hander now ranked 25 in the world.

World number four Mark Royal went out at the first hurdle to fellow England compatriot Ian Bond, who slipped out of the top 16 last season.

A surprise also for the new world number 15, England’s Nicky Brett, who was beaten by Australian qualifier Lee Schraner.
