Sophie Tolchard ends fortnight with fourth national title
It has been an incredible fortnight for Devon player and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Sophie Tolchard, who yesterday scooped her fourth national title in two weeks.
Leading for Harriett Stevens, she won the Women’s National Junior Pairs Championship, supported by Marion Bushnell.
Tolchard, from Kings BC, and Stevens, from Newton Abbot BC, were on opposite sides when the former defeated the latter in the final of the Women’s National Pairs Championship just the day before – but they successfully teamed up to claim the junior title against Somerset’s Rebecca McMillan and Laura Holden.

In the national pairs, it was an all Devon final with Sophie Tolchard and Natalie Chestney winning the championship, sponsored by Sporting Highlights.
The Kings’ duo defeated Cassidy Lenton and Harriett Stevens in an extra end to add to their earlier 2016 Championship success.

TRIPLES
Tolchard and Chestney, alongside Lorraine Hackett, also claimed the national triples crown, sponsored by Hugo Fox.
The trio from Kings BC defeated Surrey’s Sharmishta Patel, Maureen Vandrau and Margaret Smith from Sutton BC 21-7 in the final.
The victory provided a second triumph in the event for Tolchard and Chestney, who previously won the event with club mate Ruth Rogers in 2011.
Earlier in the semi finals Devon defeated the local favourites Wendy Holloway, Liz Westell and Moira Parsons from Welford-on-Avon BC, Warwickshire whilst Surrey overcame Northumberland’s Pat Browne, Rachel Cartwright and Kayleigh Proctor from Burradon BC on an extra end after a thrilling encounter.
