TRIPLES

Bedfordshire’s Jenny Mitchell, Kimberley Tift and Jenny Dowers from Leighton Buzzard BC defeated Di Hurst, Jan Everitt and Pa Walker from Birstall BC in Leicestershire in the Bowls England Women’s National Triples Championship, sponsored by HugoFox, at Victoria Park, Royal Leamington Spa.

The Leighton Buzzard trio trailled 13-3 at nine ends, however eight shots over the next four ends narrowed the gap to just two shots. The Leicestershire side then increased their lead to five shots with four ends to play, however good play from the Bedfordshire side ensured the teams went into the final end tied at 17-17.

It looked like the title would be going to Leicestershire after Tift had unfortunately given the shot away, however Dowers, with her final bowl of the match secured the shot albeit with an element of fortune.

Earlier in the day, the Bedfordshire trio defeated Jane Johnson, Sandy Hazell and Wendy King from Milton Regis BC in Kent 24-18, whereas the Birstall bowlers defeated Abby Woodward, Dawn Owen and Sharon Hall from Desborough Town BC in Northamptonshire 18-14.

Semi-Final:
