England Win With Ease

After a first match nail-biter against Wales, England women stormed to victory in the senior womenโ€™s international series in Glasgow.

After beating Wales 118-117, England went from strength-to-strength, despatching Ireland 130-88 and complimenting this by defeating last yearโ€™s champions Scotland on home soil with a commanding 131-96 win.

Their final match was against bottom placed Jersey this morning, and England made no mistake by beating them 135-98 to finish the series unscathed. This win included a 43-6 win for the English rink skipped by Penny Strong over Sue Dingle.

Wales, Scotland and Ireland all won two games each. It was Wales who clinched runner-up spot with a +73 aggregate, with a comfortable 129-105 win over Jersey and a crushing 151-93 win over Ireland the highlights for them.

It was a disappointing third place for the Scottish ladies after they had won the series the previous year. They opened with a nervy, seven shot victory over Jersey and followed this up with a surprise defeat at the hands of the Irish, 112-120, before going down heavily to England. A small, eight shot win over Wales restored pride but left them with an aggregate of โ€“28.

Ireland opened their account with a narrow win over Jersey and, as aforementioned, won an historic battle over the Scottish, but were despatched with ease by the English and the Welsh to leave them fourth with โ€“ 89.

Jersey took the wooden spoon with four losses, but did show their credentials with narrow defeats to Ireland and Scotland, and actually finished on a better aggregate than Ireland with โ€“ 71.
