Swale Indoor Bowls Club host Multiple Sclerosis group

Members from MS Swale, a support group for people with MS, have taken up the challenge of playing indoor bowls once a week at Swale Indoor Bowls Club in Sittingbourne.

With the help of Sports Grants from Swale Borough Council and generous donations from local councillors, MS Swale has been able to purchase three special wheelchairs which has allowed MS Swale to start up dedicated Para-Bowls club with regular weekly sessions, providing not only fun, but companionship and exercise.

Members of the Bowls Club have assisted with coaching, together with the use of shoes and bowls from the clubs stores has enabled everyone to try the game.ย  ย Depending on the extent of their disability, members may walk, use a supporting walking stick, or a Para-wheelchair. ย Disability is no impediment.

Whilst the Para-Bowls group was started for the benefit of people with MS, anyone with a disability that would like to try bowls and join the sessions are very welcome.

Brenda Fathers, Chairman, of MS Swale said: โ€œExercise and group support is important for people with MS, who often feel isolated by their Multiple Sclerosis.ย ย ย  Bowls is an excellent way to exercise, whilst at the same time have fun and companionship.”
