Atlantic Senior Fours preview
Bowls Cyprus in partnership with Constantinou Bros Hotels presents the Atlantic Senior Fours, December 1-12, at the Athena Beach Hotel, Paphos, Cyprus.
It will be the largest ever international event for the Over 55s and will comprise three competitions โ ladiesโ menโs and mixed disciplines.
Twelve countries will be taking part โ Cyprus, Czech Republic, England, Guernsey, Jersey, Norfolk Island, Scotland, South Africa, Switzerland, USA, Wales and Zimbabwe.
Celebrity bowlers attending will be John Bell, Anne Dunwoodie, Lorna Smith and Robert Weale.
The inaugural event has been innovated by Bowls Cyprus, with World Bowls approval.
The event takes the form of menโs and womenโs fours and mixed fours.
Tournament director is Gary Smith and Chief ITO is
Allan Thornhill.
Said Gary: โI was delighted to be invited by Bowls Cyprus to be the tournament director for the 2023 Atlantic Senior Fours.
โDuring my years as World Bowls chief executive and tournament director for many World Bowls events, I had the pleasure of being the tournament director at Atlantic Championships and World Singles Champion of Champions hosted at the Constantinou Bros’ magnificent Athena Beach and Athena Royale Hotels, a truly world class venue in Paphos.
โI am looking forward to building upon the already excellent relationship established with the always welcoming, friendly and efficient hotel management and staff and Bowls Cyprus host organising committee personnel.
โI commend the hotel management and Bowls Cyprus for their initiative in establishing and generously supporting this new event for the very important seniors age group and for their continued determination and commitment to ensuring this inaugural Atlantic Seniors Fours actually takes place bearing in mind that it was originally scheduled to be held in 2020 and had to be delayed due to the global pandemic.
โThere will be an extra bonus for all attendees with the opportunity to meet and mix with four world renowned bowls ambassadors, John Bell, Robert Weale, Lorna Smith and Anne Dunwoodie.
โI am sure we will witness a highly competitive event played in the true good spirit of our sport and I wish all competitors a successful and enjoyable event.โ
Andreas Constantinou, executive president of Constantinou Bros Hotels, said: โWe have strived to bring our bowls facilities to an international standard which has been recognised with the award of this event.

โFor those taking part in the tournament, there will be winners and losers with competition between teams and nations, but we hope that the friendships made during the competition remain with everyone.โ

Robert Weale commented: โI am delighted to be invited to attend the inaugural staging of the Atlantic Senior Fours, helping to promote the event before and during the competition.
โHaving played at the Athena Beach venue on previous occasions, Iโm sure the competing players will enjoy the greens, the venue and the fantastic
beach setting.
โI am hoping that the event is a great success and becomes a permanent fixture on the bowls calendar as a World Bowls event where member nations support entries and participation, catering for their senior bowlers.โ
The event will be live streamed on www.Atlantic-Senior-fours.com and their YouTube channel.
Up to 16 rinks will be available for the event and all are up to international standards
with floodlights.
