Scotland win BIIBC Women’s International Series

Scotland have won the British Isles Indoor Bowls Council’s Women’s International Series for the first time since 2017, winning all three matches in convincing fashion at Belfast IBC.

The event, which was postponed from March due to COVID-19, kicked off on Monday morning (October 10) with England making a bold bid in the opening session to retain the Clara Johns Trophy they won when the event was last held in Wales in 2020.

They beat the hosts Ireland on five rinks drawing on the other and chalking up a 64-shot opening victory, while Scotland, series winners last time in 2017 when the event was held at the same venue, overcame Wales by 56 shots with five out of six rink wins.

Session two pitted England against Scotland, but it was the Scots who controlled the match from start to finish, leading by 30-shots for much of the contest. England did battle well towards to latter stages of the contest to lose 128-112. In the battle of the Celts, Wales comfortably beat Ireland 146-90 to overturn their opening match disappointment.

The final session saw Scotland defeat Ireland 147-79, with England winning on four rinks against Wales to secure a 150-90 win.
