Bowlers recognised in New Year’s Honours List

Two bowlers have been recognised in the New Year’s Honours List.

Bob Christie (pictured) who recently left his role as Bowls Scotland’s Para Bowls Co-Ordinator and Para Head Coach after almost five years in post has been awarded an MBE for services to lawn bowls.

He helped Team Scotland to three gold medals at the Commonwealth Games in 2022 and more broadly he has supported people living with a disability to discover and excel in the sport.

Bob told Bowls International: “It was a complete surprise, but really delighted to receive the award. It is not only fantastic for myself but a great recognition for our sport especially for all the para players.”
A BEM has also gone to crown green bowler Mabel Elsie Finnigan from Telford, the county captain of Shropshire Ladies Bowls Team, for her services to bowls.

Said association president Pauline Wilson: “It’s very exciting for us all here. Sheโ€™s an absolute bowls fixture!”
