Bowls Scotland Regional Academy bowlers welcome Hong Kong Youth Development Team

Earlier in the summer Bowls Scotland was approached by the Hong Kong Youth Development Team who were keen to experience bowling in Scotland against like-minded players who had the drive and ambition to further their careers and progress to higher levels.

It was identified that the players within the Regional Academy, which is now in its third year, would provide the perfect opposition as the academy is a pathway for our promising young bowlers.

Delivered across the country, the academy provides opportunities to develop bowlersโ€™ skills, as well as facilitating a learning environment that is constantly challenging and developing playersโ€™ ability to perform in all conditions and on any surface, and allows them to work on the physical and mental demands whilst playing at a high level.

The academy players work on tactical awareness, shot selection, game management and team dynamics, and there is also a focus on improving their natural skill of consistency around all aspects of the game with repetitive exercises and drills.

A team of 12 players has been selected from the Regional Academy to contest three Test Series over three days against the Hong Kong Youth Development Team which will be played at Perth Bowling Club on Wednesday 15th August, Dunblane Bowling Club on Thursday 16th August, and Friday 17th August at Adrian Bowling Club, Falkirk.

It is also planned to hold training sessions for the visitors on Sunday 12th August at Bonnybridge Bowling Club and again on Tuesday 14th August at Blackford Bowling Club where they will also compete in a warm-up game against a SYBA select team.

George Sneddon and Natalie Docherty are delighted to be given the opportunity by Bowls Scotland to manage the test team. This is a great opportunity for the players to pit their ability against top class opposition and for members of the general public to come along and support our up and coming players.
