GORDON KINSEY: A HALF-CENTURY OF DEDICATION TO COTON BOWLS CLUB

After an incredible 50 years of service to the Coton Bowls Club, Gordon is bidding farewell as the club’s treasurer at their Annual General Meeting yesterday (Tuesday).

Gordon first joined the Cambridgeshire-based bowls club at age 16 where his membership fee of two shillings and sixpence was paid by Archie Sadler, a farmer in the village. Gordon’s primary responsibility was to roll the green after games. Coton BC’s green was only four rinks at this time and extra rinks were added in 1958 to 1960, making it six rinks as it is today.

In 1972, Coton BC member Reg Shoulders persuaded Gordon to become club treasurer, which he accepted. His first presentation as treasurer was at the AGM 1973. As he prepares to deliver his fiftieth AGM report at the 2023 meeting, he is stepping down from the role with gratitude.

Gordon has actively participated in the maintenance of the club’s green, helping with cutting the green and scarifying. He has also been chef at club BBQs and managed the bar at the club.
