Irish Bowling Association announce High Performance Squad

The Irish Bowling Association has confirmed its High Performance Squad for 2022-2023.

The High Performance Squad will become live immediately and will remain in place until after the World
Championships in 2023 (Sept 2023).

The players that form the High Performance Squad are as follows:

  • Mark Wilson

  • Richard Leonard
  • Robert Kirkwood
  • Ryan McElroy

  • Shane Leonard
  • Simon Martin
  • Stephen Kirkwood
  • Stuart Bennett

Note: Gary Kelly (pictured) will not be part of this โ€˜Domestic Squadโ€™, but the Selectors will reserve the right to select Gary for the World Championships.

There will be no official Emerging Squad this year. Instead, players will be invited to training camps throughout the year. Further information will be posted on the IBA and IBF Websites.

INTERNATIONAL CALENDAR
There are 3 Major Events within the lifetime of this Squad:

European Championships (9th July โ€“ 14th July 2022)
The European Championships Team is as follows:
Singles: Gary Kelly
Pairs: Stuart Bennett and Stephen Kirkwood
Triples: Aaron Tennant, Gary Kelly and Mark Wilson
Fours: Aaron Tennant, Stuart Bennett, Stephen Kirkwood and Mark Wilson
Reserve: Jack Moffett

Commonwealth Games (28th July โ€“ 8th August 2022)
The Commonwealth Games Team will be officially announced on 28th February.

World Bowls Championships (29th August โ€“ 10th September 2023)
Events will be held throughout 2022 in preparation for the World Championships, on suitable greens. It is also hoped to take a Squad down to Australia later in the year, subject to getting the appropriate funding. This will be confirmed by end of March.

The High Performance Squad will be reduced in size at the end of 2022 and a โ€˜World Bowls Squadโ€™ will be selected.

The final five-man team will be selected from this reduced Squad in May 2023. The remainder of the High Performance Squad will remain in place until after the World Championships.
