GUERNSEY TAKE OUT THE INAUGURAL ATLANTIC SENIOR MIXED FOURS TITLE

Guernsey were crowned the Atlantic Senior Mixed Fours Champions at a rain delayed Athena Beach Hotel in Paphos, Cyprus.

After two days of knock-out action, Guernsey, Switzerland, USA and England all won through to the semi-finals (Tuesday, December 12) where Guernsey’s Terry and Brenda Brokenshire, Robin Herbert and skip Jackie Nicolle brought Switzerland’s dynamic run to a halt, with a dominating 28-2 victory over Sol Robertson, Hazel Bagshaw, Peter Lauper and Markus Burgin.ย

The other semi-final though went right to the wire with Peter Ritchie skipping Mary Thompson, Frankie Napoli and Joanne Hedgespeth to a narrow 14-12 success ahead of England’s Brett Arkley, Ann Burchell, Caroline Cullum and Alex Bryden.

Rain clouds started to gather as the final got underway with thunder and lightning eventually causing the green to flood and after 11 ends, with the score standing 12-8 in Guernsey’s favour, the game was once again moved to the indoor complex where Guernsey maintained that four shot advantage to celebrate the gold medal 14-10.
