Hot Shots Club: September 2023

Drum roll please… we have more gold badge winners this month to announce.
Congratulations to Denise Fagan, of Harrogate IBC, and Sutton on Sea BC’s David Heppenstall and Geoff Brown who achieved a double hot shot together on June 8 in their home match against Alford and scored their third one in the return fixture on July 27. Other successful applicants this month include Jean Holsey, Janet Williamson and Val Strutt, of Bitton Park BC, who scored a nine during their first match together in the South Devon Ladies Bowls League, while Terry Vine, of Goodwood Bowls and Social Club, claimed a hot shot with Phil Sansby and Paul Thompson, in only his fourth game after three years out due to illness.
Francois Kicq, who hails from Belgium, only started bowling this season at Hope Paton BC and was successful with Jim Paterson and Dennis Baillie, while Phillip Wakefield at West Mersea BC only joined the club in May and had a hot shot in his first competitive match with Colin Harvey and Dave Shannon.
Janet Wight, Val Edwards, Pete Hawking and Mike Stevenson had a full house during a president’s charity spoon day at Bedford Priory BC which raised £106 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Bournemouth BC has also recorded its first hot shot in at least 10 years thanks to Annie Bugiel, Heather Carr and Lyn Eider.
Elsewhere, there was a second hot shot for Michael Cooper, of Gosforth and Coxlodge BC, plus two for Grace and Gary Murphy at Benitachell BC in Spain. Can they all make three to join the elite gold badge winning gang before the end of the season?
Thomas Belcher, of Farringdon BC, had his grandfather John Rimmer playing three in their hot shot winning combination which also featured John Collins and Darren Strowger.
There’s also been a battle for the oldest hot shot winner this month – with Albert Humphreys, of Crablands BC, taking top spot at 96 years of age, closely followed by Brian Bontoft, of Shepshed Town BC, at 87, the same age as Arthur Pound, of Malmesbury, who was playing with Bob Stinchombe, 86!
At the other end of the age scale, Ruben Madden is only 16 and joined Sydenham BC at the end of last season. He claimed a hot shot with Daryl Perkins, 21, Dylan Morrow and Graham McKee.
The Bowls International Hot Shots Club is famous throughout the bowls playing world.
It was launched more than 20 years ago to reward players achieving a maximum score on one end of a competitive match and remains as popular as ever.
Certificates recognising the feat and signed by 15 times world champion Tony Allcock OBE take pride of place in the clubs and homes of bowlers all over the globe.
Different coloured bowls stickers are also available to highlight the achievement of becoming a member of the world’s largest and most exclusive bowls club.
Apart from having your names recognised in print and featured on our website www.bowlsinternational.com, why not send in a picture as well of the successful pair, triple or four, along with some interesting and relevant details about your claim.
You can provide a few details on the entry form that is featured in this supplement and email your photos to hotshots@bowlsinternational.com
