World Under 25 Mixed Pairs semi-final recap

England โ€“ Emily Kernick & Harry Goodwin
                          V
Malaysia โ€“ Aleena Binti Ahmad Nawawi & Muhammad Idham Amin Bin Ramlan

After their thrilling match this morning in the Gents Under 25 singles quarter final, Englandโ€™s Harry Goodwin teaming up with Emily Kernick, was looking for revenge over Muhammad Idham Amin Bin Ramlan and his team mate Aleena Binti Ahmad Nawawi from Malaysia.

Englandโ€™s Emily & Harry made the running in the first set winning the first two ends, dropping a single on the next and then Harry with his last bowl made the perfect three to lead 6-1 after fours ends. Allena and Muhammad fought hard to get back in the set scoring a couple of singles, but the English duo just shut up shop keeping the score tight to win the first set 7-3.

The Malaysian pair now had to dig deep at the start of the set to keep themselves in the match, Emily and Harry had other ideas. Scoring a single on the first end and a three on the second, the game was slipping away from Aleena and Mohammad. Over the next few ends Englandโ€™s Emily Kernick and Harry Goodwin scored on the remaining five ends to run out 10-0 winners and progresses to this evenings Mixed Pairs Finals.

Ireland โ€“ Shauna Oโ€™Neill & Ryan McElroy
                                  V
Australia โ€“ Jessie Cottell & Nathan Black

Irelandโ€™s pair of Shauna Oโ€™Neill and Ryan McElroy started their mixed pairs semi-final with a score of three on the first end, this was really not the start the Australian pair of Jessie Cottell and Nathan Black were looking for.  Singles were traded over the next few ends with the score at 4-2 after four ends, end five however had a huge bearing on the balance of the first set. With the Ireland pair lying three bowls clustered around the jack, which was on the tee.  Australian skip Nathan drove with his last bowl, perfect strike, or so he thought. The jack rebounded up the green, after a tight jack measure, the jack was declared dead and was re spotted back on the tee, giving Ireland a count of three and ultimately the first set, such a cruel result for the Aussie pair.

Set two, saw Jessie and Nathan start the stronger and saw them lead 4-1 after three ends, the Irish pairing hit back with a two on the fourth end to tighten up the set. Singles were traded over the next two ends, with the score at 5-4 in favour of Jessie and Nathan, they had to score on the last end to take it to the tie break. Shauna and Ryan held shot and although Nathan was close with his last delivery, it just slipped past high to give the Irish pair Shauna Oโ€™Neill and Ryan McElroy the shot they need to draw the set 5-5 and progress to this eveningโ€™s Mixed Pairs final.
