Bowls International to sponsor Story of the Year Award

Bowls International is delighted to have joined forces with Bowls England to sponsor the Story of the Year award at its upcoming Awards Night. The inaugural Bowls England Awards Night will celebrate all levels of our sport, appreciating the great contribution made by counties, clubs, umpires, players and volunteers.

The Story of the Year award celebrates an incredible marketing initiative at club or county level which has led to a growth in participation or has increased exposure for the sport.

Entries were shortlisted by an expert panel, including Bowls International Editor at Large, Ceris Hewlings, with an online vote opening in January to determine the winner.

Ceris said: โ€œWe are proud of the long-standing relationship that Bowls International has had with Bowls England, the English Bowling Association and the English Womenโ€™s Bowling Association for many decades at its previous Annual Dinner and Presentation of Prizes, with the magazine being a key stakeholder and sponsoring the various Bowler of the Year awards for more than two decades.

โ€œThis yearโ€™s shortlist for the Story of the Year award includes three great marketing ideas which many clubs will be able to learn from and potentially introduce similar initiatives within their own club.

โ€œAll attendees to the Awards Night will receive a complimentary copy of Bowls International and we look forward to joining Bowls England and recognising the fantastic efforts of the last 12 months from all corners of the bowls community within England.โ€

Bowls England Chief Executive, Jon Cockcroft, added: โ€œWe are delighted that Bowls International are proudly supporting our new look Awards Night through sponsorship of the Story of the Year Award.

โ€œBowls England and Bowls International are committed to amplifying and recognising the wonderful stories from the grassroots of our sport. We look forward to working closely with the publication over the next year to showcase the very best of bowls.

“Discussing all the many fantastic nominations with fellow panel members was a real highlight of 2021. I am excited to celebrate all our worthy nominees at the Awards Night in February, which will be a great celebration of our whole sportโ€

The shortlist for the Story of the Year includes:

  • Barrie De Suys (Addlestone Victory Park BC, Surrey)
  • Peter Jones (Bristol St Andrew’s BC, Gloucestershire)
