IT’S A MAGICAL THIRD WORLD INDOOR SINGLES CROWN FOR SCOTLAND’S STEWART ANDERSON

Scotland’s Stewart Anderson and Alex Marshall MBE produced an epic Imagine Cruising World Indoor Bowls Singles final with an array of impeccable shot choices from both players throughout their best of two sets of 11 end final at Potters Resorts, Hopton-on-Sea, but it was a delighted 38-year-old Anderson who took possession of the unique Langham Glass Trophy for the third time (writes Anne Dunwoodie, World Bowls Tour).

The early exchanges were a warning of what was to come and it certainly didn’t disappoint. It was a match that had everything, with both players in red hot form.

They tied at 5-5 after four ends, 6-6 after six and Anderson was marginally ahead at 8-7 with three ends ot play but on the ninth end, Marshall failed to throw the jack to his favoured short length of 23 metres and that gave Anderson jack advantage and he went ‘T to T’ where he counted a treble to take an 11-7 lead and put the set out of reach with a single to win 12-7.

In the second, Anderson got off to a magical start counting trebles on two of the opening three ends to lead 6-1.

However Marshall is not a six time winner of this title for nothing – racking up a full count  of four shots followed by a double to stand all square at 7-7, and then two ends later at 8-8.

But once again Anderson counted his third treble of the set to strengthen his grip on the set at 11-8.

Marshall dug deep to come within one shotย  at 11-10 with one end remaining, but Anderson shut that alley down and counted a double to celebrate the title 13-10.

It was Anderson’s third final of these World Championships adding this singles to the open pairs title title he regained with Darren Burnett against fellow Scots Jason Banks and Paul Foster MBE, and narrowly went down in the mixed pairs with Ceri Ann Glen to Scotland’s Julie Forrest and Nicky Brett.

RESULT: Stewart Anderson (Scot) bt Alex Marshall MBE (Scot) 12-7, 13-10.
