Scotland announce elite squad

Bowls Scotland has announced an elite squad of 26 to represent the country at international events between now and the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The 14 men and 12 women will be under the guidance of recently-appointed head coach David Gourlay.

Men: Paul Foster, Alex Marshall, David Peacock, Neil Speirs, Darren Burnett, Graeme Archer, Robert Grant, Alister Kennedy, Grant Logan, Jonathan Ross, Robert Marshall, Derek Oliver, Martyn Rice and Tommy Mann.

Women: Margaret Letham, Caroline Brown, Michelle Cooper, Claire Johnston, Lynn Stein, Claire Douglas, Anne Dunwoodie, Lorna Smith, Mandy O’Donnell, Susan Murray, Lauren Baillie and Becky Campbell.

Notable absentees are Wayne Hogg and Lorraine Malloy, who both featured in last year’s Commonwealth Games in India.

“There is a strong combination of experience as well as youyh which represents a potent mixture of talent within squad,” said Gourlay.

“The squad members have played their way to selection with solid and consistent performances, however the door remains open at this stage as we enthusiastically start the process of building towards 2014.”
