Stewart Anderson wins second World Indoor Singles title

Scotland’s Stewart Anderson today won the Just 2019 World Indoor Singles, beating Simon Skelton in the final.

Having won the first set 11-5 but losing the second 6-8, Anderson found himself in a tie-break, which he won 2-0, scooping the Langham blue trophy and a cheque for £50,000.

Anderson’s last bowl was memorable as he found himself one down and, opting to draw, caught Simon’s front bowl and fell in for shot.

He said: “I had a wee bit of Lady Luck and on the first end of the tie break as well but it was my day today.

“Simon was excellent. Every time I thought I was lying a good head Simon produced a great running shot. I don’t think he missed a running shot all game.

“It was great to see my Mum down here, my brothers and my fiancee, it just means everything, everyone here has been brilliant, thanks.”

Skelton fought back against a very consistent Anderson.

He said: “I struggled a bit first set but was happy with the way I played second set although I couldn’t seem to string more than two ends together so I was having to match Stewart on the long jacks and he was dominating those ends.”

“I was pleased that I got myself back in to the second set and in to the tie break, those ends could have gone either way and Stewart got over the line with his last to bowls.

“I was pleased to push him all the way but disappointed to lose.”
