DRAWS / PREVIEW | 2022 World Indoor Championships

The draws for the 2022 World Indoor Championships have been revealed, with Potters Resort hosting the event from Friday 7th January until Sunday 23rd January.

It will be the 24th time that the Hopton-on-Sea venue will provide the entertainment, with crowds returning after last yearโ€™s unfortunate hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mark Dawes will begin his quest to retain the World Indoor Singles Championship against Graeme Howard, who reached the final stages after coming through the recent qualifying event in Swansea.

The standout tie in the Open Singles event sees 14th seed Jamie Chestney taking on his international colleague Jamie Walker, who will compete at the Championships for the first time following his success at the Taunton Deane qualifier.

Six-time champion Alex Marshall MBE opens his campaign against Belfast qualifier Mark McPeak, with Katherine Rednall, who memorably defeated Marshall 12 months ago facing Mark Royal in the first round.

The draw has also pitted Simon Skelton against Wayne Willgress, which looks set to be an intriguing encounter after both men have been battling it out on the fringes of the top 16 for several years.

In the Ladies Match Play, holder Laura Daniels faces a tough opener against Guernseyโ€™s Alison Merrien MBE, with Katherine Rednall looking to become the first woman to win four Match Play titles facing Scotlandโ€™s two-time champion Julie Forrest.

Mark Dawes and Jamie Chestney will face the winner of either Mark Burdett/Ben Harris or Trevor Taylor/Stuart Airey in the first round of the Open Pairs.

Greg Harlow, who reached the final with Ellen Falkner MBE last year, will team up with Nick Brett who missed the event 12 months ago due to injury. Harlow and Brett also face the winners of a preliminary round contest โ€“ either Canadaโ€™s Gary Pickering and Jeff Harding, or the young England pairing of William Moulton and Ashley Nethercliffe.

Julie Forrest and Stewart Anderson will start their defence of the Mixed Pairs title against Mark Dawes and Irelandโ€™s Sandra Baillie. In her first appearance at the Championships, Sophie Tolchard will team up with Nick Brett as they face Katherine Rednall and Robert Paxton in an all-England clash.

William Moulton will also be in action in the Under 25 Singles, as he looks to defend the title that he won in 2020. Moulton will play Stanley qualifier Daniel Pool in the semi-final, with the other side of the draw seeing Scotlandโ€™s Darren Weir up against Hong Kongโ€™s Lyndon Sham.
