Men’s Champion of Champions and Fours winners crowned

Devon’s Sam Tolchard won Men’s National Champion of Champions Competition, supported by the friends of English Bowling, at Victoria Park, Royal Leamington Spa.

Tolchard defeated Middlesex’s David Pitt to claim the prestigious title for the second time – having previously secured the crown back in 2007.

Meanwhile, Buckinghamshire’s Tom McGuinness, David Ross, Kirk Smith and John McGuinness won the Bowls England Men’s National Fours Championship, sponsored by St. James’s Place Wealth Management.

The Gerrards Cross rink defeated Gareth Colebrooke, Ray Nash, Mitchell Cooper and Ryan Buckett from Suttons BC, Berkshire, in an enthralling final.

Gerrards Cross took an early 12-1 lead after six ends of the final, before Suttons scored a seven, four and three in successive ends to take the lead at 15-12. The scores were than level at 15-15, 17-17, 18-18 and 20-20, before a count of three on the 20th end proved crucial for the Buckinghamshire quartet.

Earlier in the semi-finals Gerrards Cross prevented an all-Berkshire final with victory against Tilehurst’s quartet of Scott Winskill, Mark Clisby, Mark Hancock and Andrew Knapper whilst Suttons triumphed against Richard Spriggs, Gary Telling, Richard Telling and Edward Morris from Essex County, Essex.
